A dream penthouse.
The original house was too compartmentalised, with very long and zigzagging corridors, two large terraces, which were accessed independently, very basic building materials and with no aesthetics.
Our client’s dream was to be able to gather her friends and cook for them.
Our response was to eliminate partitions and create a large central space, where the kitchen, dining room and meeting area would be located, while connecting both terraces. Thus, we got a focus point to meet, interact and enjoy at the same time, separating the public area from the private one.
The kitchen was designed to be connected to the rest, highly functional, with a hidden laundry area, and with the possibility of making it independent, thanks to a sliding door and a blind that closed the hole in the bar, leaving the possibility of being seen or no, as desired.
The installation of a wood-burning fireplace, near a large window, allowed us to counteract the heat loss and add a touch of warmth to the space.
The opposite terraces gave us the possibility of using them in different ways. The summer one, oriented to the north and sheltered from the sun, with the air of the mountains that it overlooks, was where we placed the barbecue with a large table. In the winter one, facing south and with views of the castle, we turned it into a chill-out area, with furniture designed using recycled pallets, easily movable and with highly resistant fabrics.
A large private bedroom with dressing room and bathroom remained completely independent from the rest of the house.
The rest of the spaces are defined by the guest W.C., with a design different to that of the rest of the house, and a room for meetings, work and projections, in the entrance area.
